Danish Gambling Authority Reports Revenue Decline in September 2024
The Danish Gambling Authority, Spillemyndigheden, recently published September 2024 gambling revenue data, revealing a 2.8% year-on-year decrease in total spending, amounting to DKK 553 million. Betting experienced the steepest drop, falling by 22% to DKK 144 million. Of these, 63.2% were mobile bets, 14.6% on desktop, and 22.2% through physical betting shops. Weekdays saw steady deposits of 11% per day, while weekends rose to 20% each. Spending in land-based casinos decreased by 9.7%, averaging a daily spend of DKK 155,025.
Increase in Online Casino Spending Amidst Danish Gambling Market Shifts
Land-based gaming also faced declines, with physical slot machine spending down 3.5% to DKK 92 million, and peak play times between 3-4pm accounting for 8.8% of all sessions. In contrast, the online casino sector grew by 12%, reaching DKK 288 million in total, driven mainly by slots, which made up 77.5% of the online spending. As of September 2024, Denmark’s Rofus register recorded 53,043 entries, with 37 players contacting StopSpillet for help. The Authority’s youth gambling prevention efforts also received global recognition with an IAGR award.
