Iowa Man Wins Lifetime Prize with Lucky for Life
Brandon Richey, a resident of Dallas Center, Iowa, recently secured a tier-two prize from Lucky for Life, the Iowa Lottery confirmed. The fortunate winner will receive $25,000 annually for life, marking it as the second-largest prize available in the game. Richey purchased his ticket from a Kum & Go store in Waukee and matched five numbers in the December 15, 2024, drawing, narrowly missing the Lucky Ball.
Had Richey also guessed the Lucky Ball correctly, he would have claimed the game’s top prize of $1,000 per day for life. Despite not hitting the jackpot, Richey was still thrilled with his win. It took several days before he even realized his fortune, as he casually checked his ticket while grabbing coffee before work.
Winner Initially Doubts His Fortune
Richey admitted he was skeptical upon discovering his win. After checking the ticket at one store, he visited another to verify the results. Once confirmed, he went about his day at work, albeit distracted by his newfound luck. When visiting the Lottery headquarters in Clive, Richey opted for a lump sum of approximately $390,000 instead of the annual payments.
Grateful for his windfall, Richey shared modest plans: “I’m just going to pay off some bills and invest the rest.” His win continues a lucky streak for Iowa lottery players, with several substantial prizes recently awarded statewide. Just a month prior, a Des Moines player won the game’s top prize, $1,000 a day for life. Another player from Des Moines won $25,000 annually for life in October.
