Australia Expands Efforts to Block Unauthorized Online Casinos
The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has intensified actions against illegal online casino websites targeting Australian players. These sites are accused of violating the Interactive Gambling Act 2001 by offering unauthorized gambling services within the country.
New Additions to the Blocklist
Since November 2019, ACMA has blocked over 1,117 unlawful gambling and affiliate websites. Recently, six more domains joined this list:
- Eddy Vegas
- Lucky Friends
- Lucky Ones
- MoonWin
- Slottie
- SpinsUP
Each of these sites has been subjected to an Internet Service Provider (ISP) block, the strictest measure to prevent access to prohibited gambling content.
Although ISP blocks can occasionally result in collateral effects, ACMA has coordinated with service providers to minimize disruptions. This approach ensures that only domains violating regulations are restricted, safeguarding legitimate internet usage.
ACMA’s Mission to Educate and Protect Players
ACMA consistently reminds residents to stay cautious about unauthorized gambling services. Many offshore operators exploit regulatory gaps, offering localized promotions and bonuses to attract Australian players, despite the prohibition of online casino games under the law.
The regulatory body is determined to raise awareness about illegal gambling sites and their risks. In October, it acted against several other unauthorized operators to ensure compliance with national laws and protect consumers.
