Norway Imposes Loss Limits on Bingo Games for Safer Gambling

The Norwegian government has strengthened its consumer protection policies, now focusing on bingo games nationwide. In a recent statement on its official website, the government confirmed that bingo games, previously operating without restrictions, will now need loss limits to align with Norway’s responsible gambling framework for games of chance.

New Loss Limits Introduced for Player Protection in Bingo Games

Culture and Equality Minister Lubna Jaffery announced that both physical and online bingo games will introduce these limits, effective January 1, 2025. This timeframe will give bingo operators time to adapt to the new regulations, which are intended to curb potential gambling harm. In her statement, Jaffery noted the government’s responsiveness to industry concerns regarding the challenges posed by these changes.

Norway Enhances Responsible Gambling Standards in Bingo

Jaffery also reiterated the need for accountability within Norway’s “exclusivity business model,” emphasizing that consumer safety is key and achievable with loss limits. With this policy, Norway’s bingo industry will now align its practices with the country’s broader responsible gambling regulations.

Norway has been proactive in addressing harmful gambling practices. In the previous year, the government imposed DNS blocks on illegal gambling websites, aiming to limit the influence of black markets.
